With all of the Election excitement the Equality Act 2010 has snuck onto the statute book. This was conceived to unify the previous anti discrimination legislation covering gender, age, disability etc. Unsurprisingly there are also a lot of new factors in this act, for example with pre-employment health questioners employers are prohibited from asking job applicants questions about their health and whether they have a disability. Other areas that are affected include discrimination by association or based on perception, equal pay, dual discrimination (post April 2011) and the act will widen Employment Tribunals powers to enable recommendations to be made across the workplace.
Keep watching our blog to see how this will play out and the impact it will have in the work place.
