There is a Government Consultation open on the new shared parental leave bill allowing employers the opportunity to submit their view on how this new system should be managed.
The Children and Families Bill will be submitted through parliament later this year and could have a major effect on all UK employers.
The legislation will allow a mother and father to “share” a year of leave after the birth of their child. Although there are many decisions still to be made e.g. when should leave start and eligibility, this is your chance to air your views as an employer.
ACAS will also shortly be launching a consultation on best practice for the new rights to request Flexible Working.
The Government have proposed that this right will be open to all employees who have worked for their employer for 26 weeks or more. Although you are not legally required to agree to flexible working requests, you must be seen to consider all requests in a reasonable manner.
We will keep you up to date with all changes as and when they are announced.
In the meantime if you would like some advice on managing the effect of flexible working please give us a call.
